چکیده

Abstract MC-CDMA, a multicarrier modulation scheme based on code division multiple access (CDMA) is the most likely candidate for the next generation of mobile radio communications. Rate compatible punctured turbo coded hybrid ARQ (RCPT HARQ) has been found to give improved throughput performance in a DS-CDMA system. In this paper, we apply RCPT HARQ to an MC-CDMA system and evaluate by computer simulations the throughput performance of the RCPT HARQ in a frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel. It was found that the throughput performance of RCPT HARQ is almost insensitive to channel characteristics. The performance can be drastically improved with receive diversity combined with spacetime transmit diversity (STTD). In addition, the comparison of RCPT HARQ in MC-CDMA, OFDM and DS-CDMA systems shows that, under similar conditions, the throughput in MCCDMA is the best over a frequency-selective fading channel.

Rate Compatible Punctured Turbo-Coded Hybrid ARQ for OFDM in a Frequency Selective Fading Channel

Recently orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has gained a lot of attention in mobile radio communications because of its ability to allow high data rate transmission in a severe frequency selective fading channel. Rate compatible punctured turbo coded hybrid ARQ (RCPT HARQ) has been found to give improved throughput performance in a DS-CDMA system. However the extent to which the ...

Analysis of the optimum spreading factor for MC-CDMA with RCPT-coded HARQ

In MC-CDMA, each user’s data-modulated symbol to be transmitted is spread over a number of subcarriers using an orthogonal spreading sequence defined in the frequency-domain. As the spreading factor SF becomes larger, the transmission performance improves due to increasing frequency diversity effect; however, the data rate per user decreases. The SF=1 system corresponds to an OFDM system. In an...

Abstract OFDM, MC-CDMA and DS-CDMA are being researched vigorously as the prospective signaling technique for the next generation of mobile communications systems, which will be characterized by the broadband packet technology. With packet transmission, hybrid ARQ (HARQ) will be inevitable for error control. HARQ with rate compatible punctured turbo (RCPT) codes is one of the promising techniqu...

Effect of Limited Number of Retransmissions of RCPT Hybrid ARQ for DS-CDMA Mobile Radio

Hybrid ARQ with Rate Compatible Punctured Turbo (RCPT) code achieves the highest throughput when minimum amount of redundancy bits is transmitted with each retransmission given that the allowable number of retransmissions is unlimited. However in a practical system, the number of retransmissions allowed is limited. In this paper we analyze the signal energy per information bit required for a gi...

Performance Evaluation of RCPT Hybrid ARQ Schemes for DS-CDMA Mobile Radio over Frequency Selective Rayleigh Fading Channel

In this paper, we evaluate by computer simulations the throughput performance of the turbo-coded hybrid ARQ for direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) with antenna diversity reception and Rake combining in a frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel. The effect of a range of system parameters and propagation parameters (viz., the frame length, puncturing rate, spreading facto...
